Captain Planet Day
September 15, 2010

Councilman Kwanza Hall will declare September 15 as Captain Planet Day on behalf of the City of Atlanta! This day marks the 20th birthday of the world’s first and only eco-superhero, the date he first aired on television. Since that time, Planeteers all around the world have been recruited to combine their powers and save the Earth. The official proclamation ceremony will take place at City Hall on September 7 at 1 p.m. and the public is welcome to attend.

This declaration is just one of the strategies that CPF has planned to celebrate this enormous milestone. A driving initiative through the fall will be the collecting of $20 donations in honor of the 20th birthday. These monies will used to set up a fund for the children of the Gulf. Through this fund, money will be earmarked in our grant program for the region which will be in recovery for many years to come as a result of the recent oil spill. This Gulf fund will allow Captain Planet to provide hope and healing to the children deeply affected through the tragedy. Let’s give them a hero to believe in.

Captain Planet has asked that, to honor his birthday, all Planeteers perform a green action and share it with friends. Better yet, get them involved! And if you have $20, please consider contributing to the Gulf fund. By our powers combined, we can make a BIG difference!
