Position: Chief Operating Officer

Captain Planet Foundation is a 33-year-old NGO based in Atlanta, GA with the mission to engage and empower young people to be problem solvers for the planet. The organization operates four main programs across the U.S. and globally, including: Project Learning Garden, Project Hero, Green Heart STEM Challenge for Environmental Justice, and Planeteer Alliance.

The Chief Operating Officer reports directly to the President & CEO and is responsible for the programmatic management, implementation, and reporting of all CPF programs. This position directly oversees all program Staff and contributes to the goals of the Foundation by sharing in the development of strategic goals and scaling plans and then executing against them. This position also holds primary responsibility for building and maintaining relationships with programmatic partners and other NGO leadership.

Salary: $115,000 – $125,000/ year plus full benefits package

Organizational / Strategic

  • Work with President, outside Consultants, and Staff to design and implement scaling strategy for all programs, including (but not limited to): Planeteer Alliance, Green Heart STEM Challenge, Project Learning Garden, and Project Hero;
  • Contribute to development of external communication strategy;
  • Foster cross-program & cross-function coordination;
  • Contribute to market and field research to ensure programs are based on best practices and produce solid case studies to demonstrate theory of change.

Development

  • Work with President and development staff to understand, brainstorm and support the implementation of foundation, corporate, and individual giving campaigns;
  • Develop and manage plans to execute distribution and expense of grant dollars raised to support programmatic growth, scaling, and assessment;
  • Represent organization at key conferences and speaking opportunities;
  • Help develop researched prospects for large grant funding and partnerships; Programmatic
  • Direct supervision of all program staff;
  • Primary responsibility for executing program grant deliverables, deadlines, and reporting;
  • Meet regularly with program teams to strategize for scale, map scaling strategy, and overseeing the design and implementation of scaling components;
  • Regularly meet with President to report out on programmatic outcomes, assessments, and KPI achievement against organizational and grant deliverable goals;
  • Recruit and manage assessment teams, as required by granting agencies;
  • Coordinate and collaborate with potential and existing external program partners.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree (required), MA (a plus); and 7-9+ years program experience
  • Proven experience coordinating and executing multiple projects simultaneously
  • Proven experience managing staff members
  • Ability to self-manage, organize time and meet deadlines
  • Excellent writing and proofreading skills
  • Understanding of grants administration of programmatic funding & reporting
  • Strong interpersonal skills
  • Ability to travel

  • Sense of humor

Preferred Knowledge, Skills & Experience

  • Experience presenting and speaking
  • Knowledge of Salesforce preferred; knowledge of CSM systems; strong contacts in environmental or education funding a plus
