Captain Planet Foundation is partnering with the Emerson Collective Youth Collective and George Washington University’s Honey Nashman Center, to offer summer internship program focused on sustainability and environmental justice in Atlanta.
This summer internship program is being hosted by Captain Planet Foundation in collaboration with Emerson Collective and George Washington University.
NGO Partner Details
Captain Planet Foundation was invited to serve as the primary host and partner to develop a Atlanta Hub for the Emerson Collective Youth Collaborative. In doing so, 25 college-age interns will be available for summer placement at Atlanta area NGOs focusing primarily on environmental and sustainable development work. CPF is inviting NGOs across the Atlanta region to join this collaborative and agree to host two interns for this eight-week program. Interns will be selected and assigned by CPF, and compensated through the AmeriCorp VISTA Summer Associates program.
Partner NGO Requirements:
- Agree to host two interns for eight weeks (June 12 to August 5)
- Assign a designated on-site supervisor
- Provide 32 hour work week (allowing interns to attend CPF & ECYC sessions — calendar will be provided)
- Send organization representative to attend opening and closing event – date and time tbd
- Observe required Federal Holidays – June 19, July 4.
Internship Details:
- This internship will extend for eight weeks from June 12 to August 5 (at work sites starting June 13, last day on work site August 5)
- A cohort of 25 associates will be selected by CPF, and will be placed in partnering environmental and sustainability focused NGOs and offices across the city of Atlanta.

- Days off – June 19 and July 4, no other paid vacation days.
- A limited amount of housing & transportation assistance will be made available.
- Interns will be required to work 32 hours a week, and participate in 8 hours of professional development and enrichment programming each week, which will be provided by the Emerson Collective and Captain Planet Foundation. The majority of those events would be on Friday, but there are a few hour long educational classes during the week that they would need to attend (CPF will provide a calendar of those events).
A collective outcome of this cohort will be to report out to stakeholders and the broader Emerson Collective network on the sustainability landscape of Metro Atlanta, including your organization’s role in that work.
This program is an extension of the AmeriCorp VISTA Program and selected individuals will be considered VISTA Summer Associates and compensated based on the VISTA Living Allowance schedule for Fulton County, Georgia. In addition, associates that successfully complete the eight week program will be eligible to receive the Eli Segal Education Award, which comes with additional funding.
