Toluwalase Abiona

Planeteer Alliance Regional Coordinator, West Africa (South)

Toluwalase Abiona (she/her) is an environmental sustainability advocate and Planeteer Alliance Regional Coordinator for West Africa (South) at the Captain Planet Foundation (CPF).

 She is currently pursuing a Master’s degree in Environmental Sustainability and Policy and holds a BSc in Marine Biology from the University of Lagos, Nigeria. Toluwalase has inspired over 5,000 students to create innovative environmental solutions and has led awareness campaigns that have reached more than 15,000 individuals.

Her journey with CPF began through the Ocean Heroes Bootcamp (2019–2021), where she became a UNEP Hero-level Tide Turner and founded the Zero Plastic Straw Community, alongside the Toluwalase Abiona Days Foundation and Ecopaddy Essentials—initiatives advancing climate education, community action, and sustainable solutions across Africa.

Her work has received global recognition, including the Wangari Maathai Legacy Prize (2023) and being named a Global Recycling Hero and TECAthon Lagos Climate Action Competition winner (2024). She has contributed to regional and international climate dialogues in Botswana, Ghana, and Côte d’Ivoire.

Outside of work, Toluwalase enjoys connecting with God, reading the Bible, traveling, and spending time with her family and friends.
