On Thursday, April 26th, Captain Planet visited students participating in the SCANA Energy after school homework center at Birney Elementary School in Cobb County, GA. In partnership with SCANA Energy, the Captain Planet Foundation held activities to empower & teach the students to implement environmental solutions in their school, homes, and community.
Captain Planet Foundation’s garden consultant, Kyla Zaro-Moore, and retired Birney Elementary master gardener, Linda Hlozansky, helped instruct the students in hands-on Earth Day activities.
At one station students picked up gloves and a trowel for planting sweet potatoes and pumpkin seeds while learning gardening techniques. At another station students made wildflower seed bombs that they could take home to their yards. Arguably the most popular station started with learning the life cycle and importance of the ladybug and ended with releasing ladybugs into the garden.
