OVERVIEW
Captain Planet Foundation (CPF) is seeking a creative, detail-oriented Communications Coordinator with strong digital and social marketing experience to help grow and engage our core audiences—youth (Planeteer Alliance), educators (Project Learning Garden and Green Heart STEM Challenge), and supporters (CPF).
Reporting to the Chief Operating Officer, this role helps drive audience development, social discovery, brand marketing, and insights/analytics by maintaining and executing a master editorial calendar across all owned digital channels (including: social channels, newsletters, and blogs). The Communications Coordinator will partner closely with program, development, and leadership teams to turn stories and data into compelling content that advances CPF’s mission and impact.
RESPONSIBILITIES
- Write, edit, and optimize social posts across all owned channels in alignment with the editorial calendar. Ensure content is engaging, on-brand, and strategically aligned with CPF’s mission.
- Research, write, and publish newsletters that highlight CPF’s programs, partnerships, and impact; track performance and engagement to continuously improve reach and resonance.
- Research, write, and publish blog posts that tell compelling stories about CPF’s mission and initiatives; optimize for audience engagement and long-term visibility.
- Partner with program teams to research, draft, publish, and track daily social content, measuring performance against campaign-specific and organization-wide KPIs.
- Work closely with the Development team to design and publish social content that supports fundraising initiatives, including corporate partner campaigns.
- Review, fact-check, and edit all content to ensure accuracy, proper attribution, and consistency in voice and brand; proactively raise questions with internal and external stakeholders when needed.
- Maintain continuity of messaging across all channels, contributors, influencers, and partners.
- Attend relevant events and conferences to capture and share live content, insights, and stories in real time.
- Serve as the public face of CPF’s social media presence, adhering to brand guidelines and engaging authentically with audiences.
- Assist the President & CEO with preparing quarterly board reports on social traffic, engagement, and progress toward goals.
- Recommend campaign adjustments and improvements based on analytics, audience feedback, and platform trends.
QUALIFICATIONS
- Bachelor’s degree in communications, marketing, public relations, media studies, English or a related field (or equivalent experience).
- 1–3 years of professional experience preferably in a nonprofit, educational, or mission-driven setting.
- Excellent ability to perform all of the skills required to fulfill all responsibilities outlined in the “Overview and Responsibilities” section above; prior experience with performing these functions is required.
- Natural curiosity about audiences and the different ways we can engage with them.
- Adept at using Adobe Creative Cloud, and associated products, for light design work for social specific content development.
- Familiarity with basic analytics and platforms like Google Analytics, Sprout Social, Campaign Monitor, and other such reporting tools.
- Ability to manage multiple projects and meet deadlines in a fast-paced environment.
- Familiarity with social media platforms and web design best practices.
- Experience working with youth-facing or education-focused design is a plus.
- An understanding of video production and video editing is a plus.
- Passion for environmental justice, sustainability, and CPF’s mission.
