In a small but determined corner of The Gambia, the seeds of change have taken root—literally.
Deforestation has long threatened the region, stripping the land of its fertility, disrupting rainfall patterns, and endangering local agriculture. But thanks to Season of Solutions, one youth-led campaign has begun to create positive change.
Sait Jallow led a powerful local project focused on reforestation and forest health. Through community education sessions and tree planting exercises, the campaign reached young community members who wanted to learn more and take action.

Participants learned not only how to plant trees—but why it matters. They discovered the critical role forests play in regulating climate, supporting agriculture, and sustaining ecosystems. They also saw the consequences of neglect: degraded soil, failed crops, and a hotter, drier future.
“It will have a lasting impact in my community,” Sait shared. “Attendees were well-equipped with the technical knowledge of how to plant trees and what trees need to survive. They also learned how deforestation affects our climate and agriculture—and how we, as a community, can fight back.”

And the impact is already spreading. Every participant pledged to plant trees in their own neighborhoods and share what they learned with others. What began as a single initiative is now a ripple of awareness and action—reaching far beyond one village.
This is the power of Season of Solutions: equipping young leaders with the tools, resources, and global support to tackle local environmental challenges—head-on.
“It’s a great platform to take real action, build leadership skills, and connect with other young changemakers around the world,” said Sait.

By donating to this year’s Season of Solutions, you’ll help more young leaders like Sait restore ecosystems, educate communities, and lead the charge against climate change.
