Ocean Hero, Hannah Testa supports Break Free from Plastic Pollutions Act

Hannah Testa, Youth Environmental Advocate, speaks at an event to introduce groundbreaking legislation to tackle the plastic pollution crisis. The bill reduces unnecessary plastic, shifts the cost burden for waste management to plastic producers, and places a temporary moratorium on new plastic facilities.

CPF is so proud of Atlanta-based Hannah Testa, our 2015 Young Superhero Awardee and a 2nd year Ocean Heroes Bootcamp Squad Leader, for using her strong voice in support of the Break Free from Plastic Pollutions Act.

Break Free from Plastic Pollutions Act
February 11, 2020, U.S. Senator Tom Udall (D-N.M.) and U.S. Representative Alan Lowenthal (D-Calif.), along with U.S. Senator Jeff Merkley (D-Ore.) and U.S. Representative Katherine Clark (D-Mass.) introduced the groundbreaking legislation that tackles the plastic pollution crisis head on.

The Break Free From Plastic Pollution Act calls for a national bottle bill, bans certain polluting products, temporarily pauses the development of new plastic facilities, sets new standards for minimum recycled content, institutes a carryout bag fee, prevents waste from being shipped overseas, requires manufacturers to collect and recycle materials, and protects existing state policy designed to curb the use of single-use plastic.
