Courtney Kimmel (she/her) joined the Captain Planet Foundation team in 2015, having come from an academic position at Virginia Tech’s Center for Leadership in Global Sustainability, where she developed graduate and professional level programs focused on sustainability. In 2023, after serving for many years as CPF’s Vice President, Courtney shifted to a consulting role.
At CPF, Courtney focuses primarily on strategy around collaborative partnership and program development. She has led the design and development of Project Hero and the ChangeMakers programs, specifically the Ocean Heroes Network and the Planeteer Alliance.
Courtney has degrees in Economics, Sociology, Political Science, and the Human Dimensions of Natural Resource Management, which combine to inform her perspectives on human-environmental systems, and thus program design. Courtney has published several articles on sustainable development and has presented at numerous sustainability and sustainability education meetings and conferences.
