Standards

  • S5E1. Students will identify surface features of the Earth caused by constructive and destructive processes.
    • a. Identify surface features caused by constructive processes.
      • Deposition (Deltas, sand dunes, etc.)
    • b. Identify and find examples of surface features caused by destructive processes.
      • Erosion (water—rivers and oceans, wind)
      • Weathering
      • Impact of organisms

Materials

Procedures

  1. Read about Soil Conservation as a whole group from the article http://www.conserve-energy-future.com/methods-of-soil-conservation.php
  2. Divide the 23 methods of soil conservation amongst students for them to each further research and prepare a short presentation about.
  3. Select the methods of soil conservation that can be implemented in your garden and put them into practice. Multiple methods can be tested against each other – even using a leaf blower to test against the “wind” after sufficient time has been taken for each of the methods to be effective.
