Many young people want to pursue careers in the Green Workforce, but they don’t know where to start. Captain Planet Foundation’s newest program, the Captain Planet Collective, is a Green Economy Workforce Development Program Powered by Accenture, with the goal of shaping young professionals into the Green Workforce leaders of the future.

The Captain Planet Collective provides learning modules and virtual events to help participants explore opportunities within the Green Workforce, develop meaningful power skills, and learn how to be successful and impressive candidates for the jobs they want.

In April, the Captain Planet Collective hosted two virtual sessions in English and Spanish about how participants can be successful on the professional platform, LinkedIn. The sessions were hosted by Ana Belén Rodríguez, Partner Experience Analyst at Accenture, and Dr Sheetal J. Patel, Principal Product Marketing Manager at LinkedIn Learning.

Participants explored how to engage authentically, post with a truthful voice, follow up meaningfully, and contribute value to professional communities.

Key Topics and Takeaways

Several important themes emerged throughout both panels, each highlighting the importance of intentionality in how youth present themselves online:

  1. A Profile is A Story
One of the most impactful ideas shared by both speakers was that a LinkedIn profile is more than a digital resume. It is a narrative. Dr. Patel and Belén emphasized that every section, from the headline to the experience descriptions, should align with the story you want others to understand about your journey and goals.

They also shared practical tips on how to polish their profiles and tailor them to the specific industry they want to work in. In fact, Belén helped one of the CPC participants improve her profile during her session, providing personalized feedback, to showcase how to apply such tips with an example.
  2. Digital Presence Beyond LinkedIn
In Dr. Patel’s session, participants engaged in a breakout activity where they searched each other’s names online and reflected on the “story” that appeared. This exercise reinforced how their digital footprint extends beyond a single platform and shapes first impressions in powerful ways.
  3. Networking as a Skill
Rather than viewing networking as transactional, the sessions reframed it as intentional relationship-building. Participants explored how to engage authentically, post with a truthful voice, follow up meaningfully, and contribute value to professional communities, through genuine connections that can later on benefit each other. Many found this piece of the session inspiring, on participant sharing, “I [also] love the encouragement to set up actual conversations to network with people weekly. I’m gonna have to get past my shyness and try it out.”

  4. Leveraging Tools and using AI responsibly
Finally, both discussions also touched on how emerging tools, including AI, can support personal branding and storytelling. From refining summaries to analyzing a person’s digital presence, these tools can help young professionals articulate their strengths more effectively.

At Captain Planet Foundation, we believe that these tools should be used responsibly, occasionally, and only to complement, but not replace, creative thinking.

Youth Voices in the Space

Youth participation was the essence of both sessions. The interactive approach of the speakers featuring breakout room activities and personalized real-time feedback, created a collaborative space for reflection and enabled participants to better understand how their online profiles communicate their professional stories.

One participant shared,“My key takeaways are the importance of clear communication, staying engaged during the session, and learning from others’ perspectives. I also realized that sharing ideas with peers helps reinforce understanding and improves retention.”

Participants took what they learned and actively translated it into actionable steps, whether that meant improving their profiles, building confidence in networking, or becoming more intentional about their digital presence.

Consistent and Intentional Communication

Being a youth climate leader today also includes how they communicate that work to the world. Developing a clear and intentional digital presence is not about self-promotion, but about amplifying impact, sharing knowledge, and opening doors for collaboration.

As part of the Captain Planet Collective and the Planeteer Alliance, this session directly aligns with our mission to empower young people to lead and inspire change. By strengthening their online profiles and networks, youth can elevate local climate initiatives, connect with like-minded professionals, and access opportunities to scale their efforts.

Moving forward, we encourage Planeteers and participants of the Captain Planet Collective Program to take small but meaningful steps. These can include revisiting their LinkedIn profile with intention, reflecting on the story their digital presence tells, and engaging with others in a genuine way.

Whether it’s by sharing their work or supporting a peer, each action contributes to a stronger, more connected community of young leaders driving climate solutions.
