Students will review how plants grow and what plants need to grow through kinesthetic modeling. An optional experiment is included to view the effect of plant spacing. Finally, students create square foot gardens, reviewing math concepts of fractions and measuring length.
Students will use a coordinate plane arranged on a raised bed to describe the plants that live within it to students that are not looking at the bed but simply drawing the plants and their location based on the students’ descriptions. At the conclusion of the activity, students will check their accuracy.
Students will observe the birds in the schoolyard and identify their traits (such as color, size, beak, feet, motion).
Students will demonstrate the need for plant spacing by going through a yoga sequence modeling plant growth.
Students will explore, chart, and analyze the effects of seed spacing in their garden.
Students will review 2-dimensional shapes and work together to create shapes with carrots.
