- S2L1c. Students will investigate the life cycle of a plant by growing a plant from a seed and by recording changes over a period of time.
- Seeds (1 per student)
- Fall: radishes, kale, spinach, or winter squash
- Spring: radishes, beans, okra, yellow squash, or bell peppers
- Cotton balls (1 per student)
- Ziploc bag (1 per student)
- Piece of yarn about 2 ft long (1 per student)
- Hole puncher
- Lead students in wetting their cotton ball and squeezing out the excess water. Instruct students on inserting the wet cotton ball into their ziploc bag with their seed. Ensure each bag is sealed, punch a hole in the zip top closure, and thread yarn through to make a necklace.
- Students can wear their ziploc gardens to watch their seeds grow. They can also be taped in a school window to germinate.
- After leaves and roots appear, seedlings can be transplanted into cups to be kept indoors or into the garden.
- Students can use what they observed to illustrate plant growth in storyboard to show the process of germination.
