Students will compare and contrast the life cycles of seasonal crops to trees, closely observing the growth of those plants in the schoolyard garden.
Students will use their senses to explore the schoolyard and write a poem about what they see, hear, smell, feel, and taste. Deeper explorations for each of the senses are included such as creating a sound map or completing a scavenger hunt for different textures or exploring an herb garden for different smells.
Students will make a thermometer to measure temperature.
Students will analyze weather charts/maps and collect weather data to predict weather events and infer patterns and seasonal changes.
Students will create a meteorological broadcast for garden growers.
Students will design a way to keep plants warm in the garden during the cooler months.
Students will learn about the life cycle of the tree and its rotting process after death.
Students will learn about the process of decomposition that happens at the end of the tree’s life cycle.
